Meet Your Ballet Teacher

Laura Lecluse

Associate Cecchetti Ballet Teacher

Laura teaches the Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet designed strictly upon the laws of anatomy which stresses two essential ingredients – technical and artistic development in a dancer and a sensitive, musical response to all movements. The Cecchetti syllabus is a balanced programme of study. It is a meticulous system drawn up with a careful regard for anatomy, designed to furnish the body with all those qualities essential to the dancer. Laura has done ballet since she was 3 years old and qualified as a Cecchetti Associate Teacher in 2016. She is a proud member of the ISTD and Cecchetti Society of Southern Africa.

Baby Ballet intake at Misschawky Studio is from 3 years old, and children begin to learn their technical foundation in fun and creative ways using props, mime, imaginative games and exercises. At the tender age of 3 children are encouraged to take their time to learn the strict stance that is ballet because the foundation that begins here only builds each year that their little feet continue in their ballet classes. The class environment is friendly, inclusive and safe.

As 3-year-olds become 5- and 6-year-olds their class time increases to 45mins, and they graduate to twice a week attendance with more of a structured class and are eligible for a Ballet Examination. Ballet exams give the students something to work towards and are the end goal of the syllabus, but children always have an aspect of fun in class and alongside the stringent requirements to uphold the international standard of Cecchetti they will also work towards annual dance shows.

Children can showcase their skills in a theatrical way with colourful costumes, genres of music outside of classical piano and an opportunity for their family and community to see what they do for hours and hours in their ballet tights and leotards. By the time children are reaching Intermediate level they will have acquired the sincerity that every ballet teacher and parent hopes for. When they reach this stage in ballet where they must pass one Exam in order to qualify for the next, the early childhood intervention of technique, etiquette and decorum blossoms in dedication and natural ability to take on new challenges physically, mentally and emotionally.

For teenagers and young adults, ballet classes offer a pathway to become teachers, physiotherapists, doctors or anything that a person desires with a self-accomplished drive to do well.
